Steve Mayone is a songwriter living in Brooklyn, NY and Somerville, MA. He’s released 4 CD’s, and his songs and instrumentals have been placed in independant films, TV, large corperate multimedia internal, b2b, and consumer campaigns. His song “I’ll Be Alright” was featured in First Time Long Time and Dark Rising 2. The independent film Still Green includes “Pocketful of Promises” and “Hour of the Pearl”, described as having the “music of a blockbuster film” and contributed music to the film Last Stop for Paul (which won 45 International Festival Awards). Steve has also been busy in the studio, playing on Bow Thayer’s new CD Bottom Of The Sky (recorded in Levon Helm’s barn in Woodstock, NY where they joined Levon for several of his Midnight Ramble Concerts), and new songs for the legendary 80′s band Treat Her Right (recording at Camp Street Studios in Cambridge, MA with Paul Q. Kolderie producing).

Steve’s music has received excellent reviews: Americana UK called Mayone “a master songsmith,” while Miles of Music says, “Mayone ties up all of Americana, folk, classic and roots-rock, effortlessly flowing from one to the next and never at a loss for interest.” Steve has also toured Europe and the States as a solo artist and with Kate Taylor, Kris Delmhorst and Todd Thibaud.

Growing up in Westchester County, NY, Steve started playing the guitar and drums at the age of 12. He began writing songs and making home albums on cassette tapes, overdubbing with two cassette decks years before four track cassette tape decks were invented. (samples of his early recordings are on the Archives page). Attending the Berklee College of Music in the mid 1980′s, Steve released albums with the bands Big Clock and Soma. His Berklee roommate was Michael Koppelman, who later rose to fame as Princes’ engineer in Minneapolis. Steve moved to Minneapolis in the early 1990′s and lived and worked there for 4 years, releasing an album with the band Raintribe. Returning to Boston in the mid 1990′s, he released and album with Hummer, and toured the states. In 2004 he released his first CD Bedroom Rockstar to rave reviews; Miles of Music described it as “Americana, folk, classic and roots-rock, effortlessly flowing from one to the next and never at a loss for interest.” After touring England and Ireland, he released Unfortunate Son in 2005. Smother wrote of Unfortunate Son as “another notch on a belt of talented pop-rock ventures with slight Americana bends and juicy roots rock. Good stuff.” Stripping back to basics, he released Understories in 2006, an acoustic album, and in 2009 he released Long Play Record“an impressive collection of songs” according to Americana UK. After Hurricane Irene devastated Vermont in 2011, Steve produced a benefit CD Big Rain Gospel, including songs by some of New Englands best singer/songwriters.

2012 finds Steve recording his as yet unnamed 5th album, as well as a collaborative album with is cousin Kristina Stykos, a vermont based singer/songwriter. He remains busy as a touring musician, playing with Kate Taylor and Susan Cattaneo, as well as producing with Bow Thayer, The Blue Ribbons and Melissa Faith Cartoun. Steve’s home studio Proofbox Studios has seen alot of activity, with Steve scoring music for Kay McGowans A Curated Worldas well as recording harmonica tracks (courtesy of Jim Fitting) for History Channels Swamp People.
